Flexibility, one of the five components of fitness, is oftentimes overlooked at the expense of the other four: cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength and body composition. It is not any less important; flexibility is essential to our overall health and wellness. When our joints cannot move through their full and natural range of motion, decreased mobility and pain is often the result.

Maintaining flexibility does not require much time at all and can be achieved by performing quick stretch sessions throughout the day. Just like with the other components of fitness, success is achieved by doing a little bit on a consistent basis. In fact, maintaining flexibility can be one of the easiest to achieve as it requires no equipment and it can be done almost anywhere and anytime, in just a few minutes.

You don't need to perform 60 minute, 30 minute, or even 10 minute sessions to maintain your flexibility. Here is a super-simple, sixty-second stretch routine you can do right at your desk:
