Getting Ready For Spring

After the cold nights of winter fade, spring reminds us that it’s time for a new beginning. Even though things may or may not be different this year, there are still many ways to enjoy the brightness of spring at home.

Here are a few seasonal wellness tips to consider adding to your self-care routine this year:

  • Cultivate Your Dreams and Goals: At the start of each year, it’s easy to make a list of goals that we have every intention of fulfilling – and then life happens. Spring is a great time to dust that list off and intentionally begin “watering” the items on it through our everyday actions. Maybe not all at once, which can be overwhelming, but try prioritizing one or two goals that you would like to see completed by summer and break down ways to incrementally make progress toward them each week. Simplify your schedule to make those actions a priority. Once those goals are accomplished, you may feel the momentum to keep moving down the list, or to make some entirely new goals.
  • Create a Nourishing Morning Routine: Especially when working from home, this one can be the first to fall off our self-care routines, as we roll out of bed and straight into our work emails. However, starting the day off from a place of refreshment, calm and energy can help us be even more productive throughout the day. So if you don’t currently have a morning routine, spring is a great time to refresh and reset your days with one. Once the weather is nicer, one way to begin could be by airing out your living space and letting the sunshine in. Or perhaps finding an online meditation and soaking in the rays of a new day with a hot cup of tea or coffee. Find whatever practice works for you, and don’t be afraid to try something new.
  • Get Ready to Run Outside: A woman outdoors stretching before a run. Go easier on yourself if you’re further from your fitness goals than you would like to be. Each day is a chance to start fresh, or move the needle of progress just a little bit more. If you have the space at home for a treadmill, that can be one way to refuel your self-care routine this spring. As virtual 5Ks and other races continue, training at home for an outside run can help you feel more aligned with your workout goals and can be a good way to fuel your mental stamina as well. With the BowFlex JRNY app, for example, you could run outside virtually through Explore the World trails. There’s nothing like running 5Ks through the Japanese countryside, 10Ks through the Scottish Highlands or a full marathon through the streets of Prague.
  • Make Space for What Makes You Happy: Setting goals and intentions for life are never a bad thing, but don’t forget that we need time to rest and restore through play as well. What everyday activities bring you joy, and how could you incorporate more of them into your schedule this spring? Maybe it’s creating a playlist of upbeat music to listen to while cooking, buying fresh-cut flowers to bring a little of spring’s brightness indoors, exploring a new hobby, or creating a home spa experience. Whatever sparks joy for you, spring is a great time to run through the metaphorical flower fields and reconnect with what makes you feel more joyful.
