Summer Fruits and Veggies: What's In Season?
As summer hits full swing, fresh fruits and vegetables are available in abundance. But which ones should you seek out at the grocery store? Keep reading: we’ve got you covered.
Cucumbers
Cool and refreshing, cucumbers are at their peak in the summer months. Use them to add crunch to a summer Greek salad — or throw yourself a spa day and pamper yourself with a DIY cucumber eye mask.
Corn
Enjoy this summer classic grilled on the cob, in a summer polenta or with your favorite meat or beans and veggies in homemade tacos.
Melons
Cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon are sweetest during the summer, perfect for your picnics and fruit salads or in hydrating drinks like this Watermelon Sparkler.
Nectarines
Nectarines are good for eating fresh or including in pastry desserts like cobblers, crisps and crumbles. Alternatively, caramelize with butter and sugar, and serve with crème fraiche or vanilla ice cream. Other stone fruits — including peaches, apricots, plums and cherries — are also available in abundance this season.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes are so versatile they can be used in recipes year-round, but home gardeners will know that summer is when tomatoes are at their best. Whip up a quick caprese salad with fresh mozzarella and basil, include them in your favorite pasta dish — or if you’re feeling fancy, why not try making your own Pizza Margherita?
