3 Benefits of Exercising with Your Partner
The couple that sweats together, stays together! When you're looking for a romantic gesture, think outside that box of chocolate. Why not try salsa dancing lessons? Get steamy with your partner and take a hot yoga class. Or if you're more hardcore, do a bootcamp together.
Numerous studies have shown that exercise benefits individuals, but did you know there are surprising benefits when you work out with your significant other? Here are three…
- Stronger Relationship
A 2021 study printed in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships found that people who exercised with their romantic partner had better moods both during and after the workout and had higher levels of satisfaction with their relationship than individuals who didn't work out with their partner.
- Spend More Time Together
Sometimes people can feel guilty spending an hour or two going to the gym when they could be spending that same time with their significant other. When you work out together, this solves both problems. Let's hear it for multitasking!
- Make Memories
Every year for my birthday I do something that pushes me outside my comfort zone. I call it my birthday scare. It's kind of like having a bucket list, only instead of doing a hundred things and dropping dead, I do one thing and then eat cake. For my 45th birthday, I wanted to learn the famous dance from Dirty Dancing…you know…the lift. And I wanted my husband to learn the Patrick Swayze part. Ask me if he wanted to learn it. (He did not.) Anyway, six ballroom dancing lessons and hours of practicing spins in our kitchen later, we actually did the lift! It was the kind of memory you never forget.
This Valentine's Day, share a little love of fitness with your partner. You'll both be happy.
